Styling Guide

What you wear for your photo session, and the location plays a huge part in how your photos will look. Here's some tips to help you out!

CHOOSE A LOCATION THAT BEST REPRESENTS YOUR FAMILY... And is a place that you will all enjoy. Outdoor, open-air environments are always a great choice because the light is divine, especially during golden hour. Also it's a great place for your children to explore and simply be kids. There are so many beautiful locations just a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of town. If you are interested in more of a relaxed lifestyle session, another option is to have your family session at home, in your natural element. No need to dress up, simply keep it casual and let me capture the raw and real everyday moments. The kids under the sprinkler, cuddles on the couch simply those timeless moments one day we will often miss more than anything!

COORDINATE YOUR CREW...Matching in all white or black with denim is OUT, let's make your photo's blend beautifully with coordinated patterns, colours and accessories. We want to visually break up the colours and shades and create a more visual interest allowing each personality to shine through.

CHOOSE A PALETTE...Don't be afraid of colour!!! In fact, some of my most favourite session's captured consist of beautifully styled families that have really taken the time with their wardrobe choices. After all, if you are going to invest in family portraits, you're going to want to look and feel your best at the same time. When choosing colours, my recommendation is to chose three colours and style around those. I personally love muted tones and earthy colours...Avoid ultra bright colours, fluro and big logo's we want to bring all of the attention to your faces and the connections between you!

ACCESSORISE...Mum's and daughters bring out those flowwy dresses and skirts, hats are on trend at the moment too, and do your make up. Make a statement, Don't be afraid to have some fun and really feel amazing. If you're pregnant, and comfortable showing off your belly, I'm all for that and have some beautiful lace kimono's available for you to wear! But I also respect that some of us aren't comfortable showing skin. Embrace this chapter I want you to feel amazing in whatever you where!

IN MY EXPERIENCE, EVERY WOMAN, REGARDLESS OF HER SHAPE... Has an area of her body that she's self conscious about(I know I do), so recognising what that is in advance is key. Choosing flattering silhouettes and colours that compliment your natural features is the best way to ensure you will love the way you look in your photos.

PREP YOUR MAN... Most men, (yep mine included!) aren't super excited to have photo's taken for an hour or even 30 minutes. Take some time to educate him why these photo's are so important to you. Tell him why you chose me to be your photographer, show him some of your favourite sessions you've seen of photos that inspire you, express why you love them so much and really lift his mood. Trust me, once he knows how important this is, he will light up the camera for you and make this experience so much more special.
